Propolis - An Effective Skin Moisturiser and Sunscreen

Did you know that propolis itself is known to promote the production of melanin which gives our skin the natural 'elasticity'. According to a study done by G.R. Herman and J.A. Bracamonte (both prominent cosmetics surgeons) in an article, Propolis Extract as a Sunscreen Agent, [Drug & Cosmetic Industry, Oct 1990 v147 n4 p38(4)], propolis does even more - it also assists in the hydration of the skin cells. This is particularly important, as the northern winter sets in with cold dry winter conditions, application of a Propolis Cream will certainly help to prevent premature ageing of the skin and help replenish the moisture of the skin - plus maintain its elasticity.

The result is younger skin and of course, looking younger longer!

In the southern hemisphere, this study indicates that propolis can be used as an effective sunscreen during summer. Hence, Chalmers Dale Propolis Day and Night Cream can be used for two purposes - to prevent ageing, maintaining skin elasticity, and also acts as a natural suncreen, preventing sunburn, and also preventing darkening of the skin. Propolis - Keeps Germs at Bay

In this day and age where the use (and abuse) of synthetic antibiotics causes dangerous strains of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, it is comforting to know that nature itself has provided us with a natural defence - and without the danger of creating 'monster' type of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. A new study by A. Kujumgiev and his friends in 1999, re-establishes the effectiveness of propolis as a potent antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral, as published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, [64(3):235-40, Mar 1999]. Propolis is also clever in the sense that it is also selective - killing off bad bacteria, but having no effect on the friendly bacteria which our body needs. That is why we use it in our soap, toothpaste and for upset stomachs.
